The term lumbar puncture has become the name routinely used for puncture of the lumbar subaracnoid space. The technic of lumbar puncture is relatively simple and the procedure has come to be almost routine in neurologic diagnosis. Lumbar puncture is associated with enough risk for specific indications, contraindications and techniques to have been defined. The considerations for these diverse applications of lumbar puncture are sufficiently distinct for practice parameters to differ for different age groups and for diagnostic, therapeutic and anesthetic applications.

Lomber ponksiyon terimi, lomber subaraknoid bo şluğun ponksiyonu için rutin olarak kullan ılan bir isim olmuştur. Lomber ponksiyon tekni ği göreceli olarak basittir ve, nörolojik tanıda hemen hemen rutin kullan ılmaya başlanan bir işlemdir. Lomber ponksiyon, spesifik endikasyonlar için yeteri kadar risk ile birliktedir. Bu kontrendikasyonlar ve teknikler tamamlanmamıştır. Bu değişik lomber ponksiyon uygulamaları gözönünde tutulduğunda, değişik yaş gruplarında tanı , tedavi ve anestezik amaçlı uygulamalar, pratik parametreler için yeteri kadar açıktır.
