45 mentally retarded patients whose psychiatric symptoms could not be taken under control by out-patient measures were evaluated in terms of their psychopathology and the treatments they were giyen. The intelligence levels of the patients were determined using the WAIS (Wechsler's Adult Intelligence Scale) whenever the pyschiatric condition was adequate. In others who would not allow a test because of their agitation or very low intelligence, clinical considerations and psychiatric examination were used the psychiatric symptoms were assessed using the Overall rating scale for psychiatric symptoms and signs. For each patient 'Assesment of psychopathology form', a form designed for this study was giyen. The results were compared with the diagnostic groups in DSM-III-R and discussed with the related literature.

Ayaktan tedaviyle kontrol alt ına alınamayan psikiyarik semptomatoloji nedeniyle hastanemiz psikoz servislerine yatırılan hafif ve orta derecede mental retardasyonu olan 45 hasta göstedikleri psikopatoloji ve aldıkları tedavi açısından incelendi. Hastaların zeka düzeyleri, uygulanabilen hastalarda WAIS (Wechsler's Adult Intelligence Scale) ile, di ğerlerinde klinik gözlem ve psikiyatrik muayene ile belirlendi. Psikiyatrik semptomlar KPDÖ (Kapsaml ı Psikopatoloji Değerlendirme Ölçeği) ile değerlendirildi. Her hasta için bu çalışmada kullanılmak üzere haz ırlanan "Mental Retardasyondaki Psikiyatrik Semptomları Değerlendirme Formu" uygulandı . Sonuçlar DSM-III-R'de yer alan fonksiyonel ve organik psikiyatrik bozukluklarla ilgili literatür ışığında karşılaştırı ldı .
