Partial or complete agenesis of the corpus callosum is a rare developmental anomaly of unknown cause. Corpus callosum plays an integrative role in the transmission of sensitive, motor and cognitive information coming from the homologous areas of the cerebral hemispheres. Abnormality in callosal transmission of perceptive stimuli is reported in schizophrenic patients. In this case report, a chronic schizophrenic patient with complete agenesis of corpus callosum is described. The interhemispheric transmission role of corpus callosum and its etiological implications in schizophrenia are discussed.

Total veya parsiyel korpus kallosumun agenezisi, nedeni bilinmeyen ender görülen gelişimsel bir anomalidir. Korpus kallosum iki hemisferdeki homolog bölgelerden gelen duysal, motor ve kognitif bilgiyi iletmede bütünleştirici bir rol oynar. Şizofren hastalarda, algısal uyaranların kallosal transferinde anormallikler olduğu bildirilmektedir. Bu yaka bildiriminde diskonneksiyon bulgularının eşlik ettiği, korpus kallosum agenezisi olan bir kronik şizofreni olgusu aracılığıyla, korpus kallosumun hemisferlerarası transmisyon işlevi ve şizofrenik etyolojideki rolü tartışıldı.
